Enjoying the Indoor Cat

Pretty much ever since we moved down here I've had to take an allergy med every night, before bed, to keep myself from scratching my eczema during the night.  So, when the girls got the kittens, and the vet suggested that we keep them inside, I agreed to give it a try.  It's been working.  We keep my bedroom door shut, so that she can't go in there and get her dander all over my bed. And she sleeps in Emma's room, so she does not have full run of the house during the night, to get into mischief.  And we are here with her all day, to keep her from scratching on things she shouldn't scratch on, so, it's working.  And we are enjoying it!!  She LOVES hair things (the covered rubber bands that the girls use for pony tails, mostly) and with four girls who use them, they are often found all over the house, providing Lilly with  hours of entertainment and fun, especially if we tie it, with a string, to the end of a stick, and play with her.  I've never had an indoor cat.  I've had several cats through the years, even when I was a kid, they were all outdoor cats because of my allergies.  I am discovering that I really LIKE cats.  It's great fun having her playful spirit in the house.  She does nap, a great deal, and is very cat-like in her attitudes about who/when she wants to cuddle.  It is definitely on HER terms.  But we just enjoy having her around.  The dogs are still not entirely sure about it, and Hobbes (the outdoor cat) is REALLY not sure about the whole thing. Why is SHE allowed inside, and he is not?  But every time we open the door for him and agree to let him come in, he sees Snoopy in here and changes his mind very quickly.  She has tried to get the dogs to play with her a couple of times, and charges at them, only to run away just before (or, occasionally just after) she makes contact with them.  They are not quite sure what to do with her, particularly since she seems to be allowed to climb all over the furniture (how would we stop her??) and they are not even allowed ON the furniture, let alone all over it.  But WE are enjoying her, even if the dogs aren't.  I'm just so glad that the vet seems to have been wrong, so far, and she (at least) is healthy and well.  And, mostly, that we got a second opinion and didn't just put her down, when he said we needed to.  Sarah is planning to get her a companion (aka another cat), as soon as she has money and can pay for it.  The vet that helped us with putting Elliot down is watching the shelters for a good match for Sarah, and will hopefully find something soon.  If one cat is fun, wouldn't two cats be even MORE fun?  (those might be famous last words)
