What an awesome day!

So, we played hookie from church yesterday.  I guess when you homeschool and church is the only place you HAVE to be every week, you have to take the opportunity to be a delinquent now and then, and just skip church.  We typically do it about twice a year or so.  We were talking, on Friday evening, about how the day was going to work, since we were expecting company in the afternoon, and I piped up with "Well, I'm actually hoping it snows, and we CAN'T go to church." (there was a 20% chance of snow) Everyone (well, almost everyone) turned to me and said, "We could always pretend!"  So, it was decided.  We would sleep in in the morning.  Breakfast would be whenever I or Sarah got up and felt like making biscuits.   What a nice thing, to know we would not have to be up at any certain time.   I took a nice long soak-y tub-bath, and generally didn't have to rush off to bed, so that we could get up early.

In the morning I was woken up by Sarah coming in with a snitch of biscuit dough for me, and letting me know that breakfast was in the oven.  Since she had done that work for me, I got up and made gravy, which we don't usually take time for on Sabbath morning.  Breakfast was a much more leisurely thing than usual, and then we did a bit of dinner prep, and then retired to the living room to read stories together.

Our company, my aunt and uncle from Kansas, stopped by at about 2:30, and we had a lovely visit, and a great lunch (if I do say-so myself, three yummy soups and two different types of home-made bread, and in all honesty, Lon made one of the soups and Annie made another, so I really only made one of them, and Lon and Sarah had made cookies for dessert).  It did actually snow for a bit, while they were here.  I expressed surprise that Tommy was not out playing in the snow, and  Morey, my uncle, thought that was sorta funny, that a kid would want to go out and play 'in the snow' when it was not sticking at ALL and barely even actually snowing.  We reminded him that in Alabama, a kid has to take what he can get!!  After they left, to head further south in search of warmer weather, we read some more, had our Sabbath Celebration (sundown ceremony) and broke out the games.  Well, first, I made good on a promise to Mayahna and helped her build a fort in the living room.  Lon, Emma and I played dominoes, and then I got to work on a project I wanted to finish, and Lon started a Monopoly game with Mayahna and Tommy -- and Annie joined in!!  (this is unusual, for Annie to join in with a game that the little kids play, she is not long on patience)  In the end Mayahna went to bed (in her fort) and Sarah (yes, miss "I hate games in any way, shape, or form!" Sarah - where DID we get a kid like that?!?!?!) joined in, in Mayahna's  place.

I got my project almost done (all the computer part, anyway, now I just have to take the printouts and make a notebook out of them today).  It's something I've been working on for quite some time.  We do a one minute math drill every day, and I have been wanting to make some changes to the way the files are organized on my computer, and make keys, and add some harder sheets at the end.  I got that all finished up, and printed.  Today, I'll put it all in a notebook.  YEAH!!

All in all it was a very VERY nice day.  It's not that we don't stay home together on a regular basis, but to stay home together on a day when there is very little that 'has' to be done, is just SO relaxing!  And the girls actually stayed downstairs and enjoyed our company.  I have to count my days while I have them, I know they are numbered.  It won't be long before finding a day when we can all hang out together and just relax on a Sabbath will be hard to accomplish, so I'm enjoying it now, while I still can.  Yesterday was a VERY nice day.
