It's been a bit quiet here this week. Just the normal school, housework, TDK, Pathfinders, and a field-trip thrown in for extra chaos' sake. We had a good week. I do need to let you know that the next few weeks are going to be crazy busy, and I may not blog quite as much - unless it becomes a way of documenting and having accountability.
We have some company coming in two weeks, and some of this stuff 'needs' to be done before they come. So it's going to be crazy busy.
We realized about a week ago, that we could re-arrange the bedrooms to free up a room so that we can have a family room. Right now the TV is in our bedroom. The main reason we have the TV at all is so that the kids can have an active play option when the weather doesn't allow them to be outside - we have a wii and an x-box and several 'active games' that they play on there for PE when it's too rainy, or too hot, (or too buggy) to be outside. Our bedroom is the room that has the best available floor space, for that play (the bedrooms in this house are HUGE!). We are moving Mayahna up, into Emma's room, since Emma has been sleeping and spending most of her time in the small room off of her room, and not actually using her bedroom much at all. So they will share, (sort of, since there is a door between them - it basically means that Emma has to go through Mayahna's room to get to her room, and Emma has no window in her room, which is a bit of a drag, but we have a potential solution for that, too, but we'll wait to tell about that a bit later...) and Mayahna's current bedroom will become our family room. It's on the main floor, and just off of the living room, so it'll work quite well.
The TV will go in there, and the craft table, that are both in our bedroom right now. We will be setting up more of an office in our room, for Lon, so it will be easier for him to focus when he is working from home, because the kids won't be in there trying to do PE, when he is trying to work.
The Christmas stuff is all in Mayahna's closet right now. And I was thinking the other day how it was SO nice that none of it was damaged/lost in the storm, and that her closet is probably not the best location for that, if we want it to survive another storm should we (GOD FORBID) ever be hit again. Wo I was thinking that it ought to be moved into the closet under the stairs, that we used as a storm shelter before we got the proper one installed in the garage. That will free up room in her closet for my craft stuff to go in there, too, close to the new location for my craft table.
I'll be able to have craft nights easier too, since right now, with my craft table in my bedroom, people are not comfortable coming in there, to do crafty things with me. I'm hoping to start doing a 'mom's night out' craft night about once a month or so, and having a family room to do it in will make it SO much easier!
So, lots of re-organizing, re-locating, a bit of painting, and some re-decorating (I'm planning a 'map/world travel theme for the family room - should be FUN!)
We also have work to do on the screened porch, painting, fixing the screen, decorating, etc. Since that space gets used more in the spring, when the weather outside is so pleasant. And I want to build a planter box or two for our patio (outside of the screened part), so we can plant a few garden items this year too.
AND - we're building a new chicken coop... using natural building techniques. (aka MUD) So, projects, projects, projects... should be a fun busy spring! Hopefully I'll be able to find a few minutes now and then to post a bit about our progress...
Have fun with all your new changes.
ReplyDeleteI hope you are able to post pictures of your new family room, the craft area especially ;-). How to on the chicken coop, that has me very curious...
ReplyDeleteDon't sweat it though, have fun creating new and fun spaces!
oh, there will be pictures, believe me, there will be pictures! We are actually hoping that the Moose will be with us for part of the construction time. :) If he is then there will be LOTS of pictures!
