| This is Elliot, when he first came to us, he used to LOVE to ride around in the hood of Sarah's sweatshirt! |
There was even one cat who was considerably worse off than Elliot (he wasn't wanting to eat, they had to really coax him to eat, he had fluid in his abdomen that was pressing on his lungs making it difficult for him to breath) but with homeopathics and diet changes (to a more natural diet - not the store-bought stuff) he lived to be 19! AND, he was pretty much back to his old playful self within about 12 hours! OH my GOODNESS.
If they live, they will likely end up being indoor cats, which will be interesting - because we have people with cat allergies!). But the other 'interesting' thing is, that Emma went to a naturalpath, on Wednesday, in regards to her constant stomach aches, etc. And while we were there, I asked about the whole de-sensatization thing, and she assured me that it is not only just 'possible', it is likely, and painless, and not that expensive. : )
We also need to hope (pray) that the landlord is ok with them being indoor cats, because if he won't, we may need to move.
Tonight (before all this research took place) Emma was asking those big hard questions, about God, and why He sometimes doesn't answer prayers. That's a tough one. It's the VERY one that I have struggled with throughout a good portion of my life, in relation to the prayers we prayed for my mom to get better, and she didn't. And it was kind of hard for me to know how to answer Emma, tonight, other than to assure her that no matter what, she CAN trust God. I'm not sure how convincing I was. It's one of those 'personal experience' things, that a parent can't GIVE to a kid. They have to get it themselves. We can encourage, and pray, and point in the right direction, and live an example, for them to see, but, in the end, they have to find it for themselves.
I'm really hoping that God was just planning to show us this way out, just waiting for us to find it. And this is the answer to her prayers. Please keep praying. And pray, not just for the girls, but for the CATS!! We are going to have a go at trying to pull Elliot through this. It may not work, but we will know we tried our best, if it does not. How could we live with ourselves if we didn't? My hunch on Lilly is that she is not actually sick at all, and simply does NOT need to be put down at ALL. We'll find out in the morning. (basically, we believe that the test that was done on her does not test for actual FIP, but for the virus that mutates into FIP, which it only does in 5% of cats with the virus - and as many as 90% of cats carry the virus or the anitgens for it, in their body. Again, only 5% mutate! So high numbers on that test - which she did have - are meaningless drivel, and if that is the line this vet was using to 'convince us' to put her down, it's time to find a new vet - this guy can't be trusted!)
If you can't find a vet to help you, I am sure you can sluth out some ideas online, and do them. I have helped quite a few cats with natural things. One was VERY sick, and she got better after we simply changed her food to the most natural food we could find. Nutrition is a big deal. Go for it Sharon. I am glad you thought to search into things more. And maybe those cats can be outdoor cats too. All they really need is a healthy immune system again to fight off viruses. I am guessing they will be fine, at least they have a way better chance. You can put garlic in their food, and do many of the other things you do to help a person fight a virus. If they ever get cut up, and start to get an abscess, ask me what to do.
ReplyDeleteour outdoor cat did have an absess recently, on his leg. He wouldn't use it at ALL. I'm not sure that anything the vet did actually helped. It just took time. I'm tired of pouring money into their questionable help. When they stand to benefit financially from offering certain 'solutions' then I can no longer trust their judgement, they are not 'unbiased' nor is my cat's welfare their FIRST concern, as it is for my girls. I'm so proud of what they are fighting for here. Even if we DO lose, at least we FOUGHT! And I have a suspicion, at least with Lilly, we will not lose. The diet is a VERY big part of what is recommended for us to do. I'm betting that this whole GMO thing is effecting them too. Why would it NOT?!? They have smaller systems, and will be impacted sooner by non-food items being passed off as food. There girls are both animal-rights-based vegetarians (they were raised as vegetarians, but given the choice at a certain point, and both decided to stay vegetarian, not because they wanted to be more healthy, but because they did not see the 'rightness' of eating animals, if we don't NEED to) and I have made it clear to them that they will need to handle meat, in order to feed these cats from now on. They are good with that. They want to do what is right for their babies. And giving up just didn't feel right. Maybe our tune will be different in a week, but at lest we will know we tried.
DeleteSharon, it feels really good to know there are people out there who will take responsibility like you have with researching FIP. I love that! I will be hoping and praying all turns out for the best for all concerned. (Although I find it hard to fathom being willing to move a whole household for the sake of two cats.....)
ReplyDeleteyeah, that might have been a tad flippant, about moving, but these cats, Elliot particularly, have meant SO much to these girls, they are almost like grandkids to me, too. I think it's one of those "Mom has to do everything possible to make this work" things. Actually today, I thought of a better solution, if he is not happy with the idea of cats inside the house. That would be to offer Buck that Lon install hard wood, (he worked with a professional for several months between engineering jobs, one time that he was laid off) rather than carpet in the living areas. (cats will already have to stay out of the bedrooms) That way Buck doesn't have to worry about future owners/renters being so bothered by 'cat smell'(Lilly is also a girl cat, so she isn't gonna be spraying or anything, anyway) And it's something we would sort of like to have happen anyway (the hard wood). Certainly MUCH easier than moving all of us!! There is also the knowledge that we have, as we did in the house on Placid, that people who are actually WANTING to sell the house, don't typically like to rent out for more than two years, because the tax situation changes for them at that point, and the property becomes an 'investment property' and the tax rate changes, so he may want to put it on the market. Ugh. So, that is probably kicking around in the back of my mind, just as it was in April of 2011, when we were wiped out by the storm. We pretty much KNEW they were going to put it back on the market - not so sure about Buck. Another matter you can pray about if you like.
