Two in one night - don't get TOO used to it!!

OK - so I'm off and running - As I was re-arranging the page, and making it purtty-ful I was looking for a way to put in the calendar-style journaling that I mentioned in that last post.  So, I did some googleing and stumbled across this VERY cool site:  Cozi.com.   WOW -  I signed right up and spent about an hour (or more) poking around and getting very excited.  One thing Lon and I were discussing over the weekend, is how it is sometimes hard for him to get a grasp on what it is that fills my days most of the time.  I think this tool will help us all stay in touch with each other and be more aware of what is going on in each-other's lives.  As the two older girls get going with more and more busy and more and more independent schedules, this will be a very helpful tool for that new aspect of our lives, too.  I'm excited!!

It includes a calendar, a menu planner, a shopping list, a journaling location, a family message center (that sends text messages out to multiple family members), To-Do lists (read: Chore lists), a recipe organizer.  AND you can use it from your laptop, desktop, tablet or phone!!!!!

If you have not seen it, you ought to check it out - I'm VERY excited about what it will do for us, as we try to keep this crazy tribe organized and all (generally) heading in the same direction (most of the time).

  1. One episode of "According to Jim" starts with him arriving home to a scene of utter chaos in the house. As he carefully, cautiously makes his way up the stairs, he finds his wife still in bed and asks her what happened. She replies, "You know how you wonder what I do all day?" He nods. "Well, today I didn't do it." Tried to find it on Youtube without luck, no clue which episode it was.

    1. I've seen a couple of cartoons like that. It makes a couple of good points. Number one, we women do A LOT (our counselor had to point that out to Lon last week - HELLO!) and it's not unusual for guys not to notice. So Lon is not anything other than typical.

Hey - while I have your ear - do those links actually work for other people too? The one to the meal planner and the calendar? I'm thinking it really ought to be password protected somehow... I kinda put those there, more for myself, and I found it interesting that I could click on them and actually get to the actual calendar and the actual meal planning page... but thought it might be because my computer is already logged in to the page, what happens when YOU click on them?

    1. ah - I'll have to put a link to their home page, for those that want to learn about the app in general. As far as publishing our family calendar, I'll have to see if there is some way for me to post our monthly calendar, after the fact, if people are interested. I'm not too sure about posting our current calendar, as there are safety issues related to that. Even the old calendar could potentially pose some problems, I guess. I'll have to give it some thought. Maybe password protect it, and people have to contact me, and get the password to have access to it. Not sure... any ideas? Thoughts?

    2. Yeah, I would not give access to that either. I think if you want to post your completed at the end of the month calendar that would be the best. I meant to go back to Cozi and got distracted by something else. =)

    3. I'm a little disappointed in them at the moment, because I tried to use it on my phone while I was at the grocery store and discovered that many of the features that I like are not available unless you are on your laptop. :( I wrote to them and let them know that I'll be willing to pay the $30 annual membership fee WHEN they make things more mobile. We'll see what happens.

    4. That's good to know...things will have to be fee free here.

Or are you on a trial run and that service would come with the fee...just would be interesting to know.

I could see where that would be really helpful, esp. in the next few years for you with more independent kiddos. Them able to help out, picking things up on the need list, or deleting themselves (as they get older) from a meal that they might be in class during, ect...

    5. the 'basic' service is always free. You pay for the 'gold' version. I don't see the need to pay, at this point... I like that idea of people using it to let me know when they won't be at a meal. cool idea.
